Oil with Cold Wax Study #1

5x7" oil with cold wax on cradled board, float framed 

This 5x7" dynamic landscape was created with oil and cold wax medium. The piece was created during my initial studies with cold wax medium and oil paint. Cold wax is a mixture of solvent, resin, and beeswax. When mixed with oil paint it creates a buttery soft texture that is such a joy to work with. It enables scrapes, revealing underneath layers, providing visual interest with high ridges in the paint with peaks and valleys, retained brush strokes and palette knife marks. 

The piece is finished with a final coat of cold wax that is then buffed out to create an ever so slightly shiny surface. Colors pop with the black floater frame. Hanging hardware included.
